Boss's Posts (108)

Every once in a while in the music world, a breath of fresh air blows through. Enter Rula, an artist hailing from New Orleans’ infamous 17th Ward. Rula comes from a royal musical bloodline that includes his cousin, the late great BTY YoungN. He is blazing his own path by putting in work, networking and churning out some dope tunes and visuals.

Rula, along with his lyrical counterparts JayArson and Y.Luck, come together on the rousing single "Call Them People For Me", produced by Kat Trakz. Rula hails from the #BTY bloodline - the same as his late great cousin, BTY YoungN. Rula, JayArson and Y. Luck are showcasing their lyrical ability while P-Town Moe plays his part in the video, along with DJ Roll X - so much so that you may just want to call them people for them! Filmed at the world famous She She's and presented by Team Squared, you won't be disappointed. Video is filmed/directed/edited by Chance of CRG Films (@crgfilms).

The New Service Will Make it Easier than Ever for Indie Musicians to Set Up Their Own Professional Website

ArtistPR is pleased to announce the launch of their innovative and automated music marketing funnel, and user-friendly music website builder.

To get started with ArtistPR, please check out https://lp.artistpr.com/get-started/.

As a company spokesperson noted, the team at ArtistPR understands that an eye-catching website is a powerful way for indie musicians to reach established and new fans. They also know that not every musician has the time or know-how to create an effective website, or handle the marketing to go with it.

This knowledge inspired them to launch the new marketing funnel and website builder. With this new program, even musicians with limited computer skills can create an amazing website.

“For musicians who don't want to do it themselves, we will build their funnel and website and this service is included for free as part of our membership program,” the spokesperson noted, adding that either way, musicians will end up with a professional-looking website along with an easy to use and automated marketing funnel.

For example, musicians’ websites will come with WordPress built in, along with an outstanding and effective theme and top of the line plugins. To make it as easy as possible for musicians to use the new features, the friendly and experienced team at ArtistPR.com will handle the websites’ licenses, custom coding and other technical details.

In addition, the website will feature a ready-to-go eCommerce store that will allow musicians to sell their merch directly to their fans. From CDs and T-shirts to posters and more, the intuitive new eCommerce store cuts out the middleman and lets the musicians keep 100 percent of their profits.

Musicians can manage their fan newsletters with the new automated system, and they can also broadcast their videos, blogs and more across social media channels.

Rapper Maddness has released his latest album titled “A World of Maddness.” This EP contains five tracks that deliver intense messages to individuals of all backgrounds. His EP is full of music that is inspired by real situations.

One of the songs on his EP titled “Deception” explains how the world is run and how it’s designed. Maddness says. “I’m humble, blunt, street, but passionate about my music. My diverse creativity allows me to expose the hidden truth about life through the ways in which I maneuver accordingly.”

Growing up, L.A. aka Maddness lived a rough life. He was moved between foster homes in a domestic violence environment, but was mainly raised by his grandmother that has blessed him with great values.  Although his birth mother couldn’t be the parental figure in his life, she always in his heart for what she tried to do. Maddness, for the most part, had to learn the do’s and don’ts from the streets the rest of the way. He was inspired musically by Curtis Mayfield, 2Pac, and Michael Jackson. At an early age, music seemed to be a great outlet away from the negativity that he has seen on a daily basis. His neighborhood held talent shows so the aspiring young artists could display their hidden talents. After he saw the reaction of the crowd when he recorded his first song, Maddness became very passionate about his craft.

“I’m humble, blunt, street, but passionate about my music.  My diverse creativity allows me to expose the hidden truth about life through the ways in which I maneuver accordingly,” said Maddness.

At an early age, Maddness won many talent shows and completed his first CD along with several mixtapes. At an event hosted by Steph Luva and DJ Flexx of 93.9 in the 90s, he won a $500 prize at the contest out of approximately 87 contestants at the Crossroads Night Club in Maryland.  Maddness continues to travel throughout the Maryland, DC, and Virginia areas perfecting his performances, but now he is positioning his self to tour around the world to get his brand, Darkcap (Dwelling As Reality Kings Centered Around Poverty) message out to the masses.  The hustle continues as he is led by those that have inspired and mentored him on the path to walk out his higher calling to reach the lost through his music.

KANGOL STILL MAKING NOISE!

KANGOL STILL MAKING NOISE!

The latest Band of the Hawk release, Kangol, finds the collective dropping their strongest lyrics while retaining the languid, disconnected groove listeners have come to identify as classic BOH. That sound, the loop-driven, bottom-of-the-closet beat tapestry (provided by producer/MC Noah Archangel), is perfected here with vocal samples, skit interludes and instrumentation woven to seamless effect (for Noah's best output, check the instrumental Levitikush from his Maschine Wars release last year). His approach is minimum input/maximum result, as the tracks give fellow MC's appropriate room to fit verses in every pocket without altering flow or compromising the subject matter.

The MC's shine here, as their hardest observations are countered with witty self-deprecation and doses of wild humor. King taunts "I'm musically high/never cursed or got drunk/you niggas ain't rapping/just mumbling junk" over Downtown Friday Night's fierce Funkadelic sample. The group's strongest lyricist, King's delivery is representative of the album's wide-ranging appeal. His is the group's gateway flow, as the other MC's enter and exit joints primarily anchored by the his bars. It's a formula with a high rate of success, as brother MC's Noah, Spear Chucka, Whoa Vada, P.Ey3 & STX meet the challenge, tossing bon mots like "back it up to the side of the house with the funnel cut/So I can swim in it like Donald Duck" or "Stomp and stone ya/I'm fucking pneumonia" with an off-the-cuff casualness that feels improvised.

The rumor mill abounds with talk of 2019 being The Band of the Hawk's final recording year. Let's hope that's just talk. Kangol's achievement lies beyond the crossroads of creativity. It's artistry represents a possible new path, not a conclusion.
