real hip hop (5)

5458638454?profile=RESIZE_710xReleased today through New Dawn Records, the explosive new album "God of Barz" by Brick City's lyrical marksman Tru Trilla.

Planting a flag for both the Garden State and the classic east coast sound, the veteran rapper and Lords of the Underground affiliate has concocted an immense piece of work, rammed full of passionate bars, skillful wordplay and intelligent rhymes.  Championing the cause of the underdog, the disengaged and the traditional values of hip hop itself while tackling political tensions of racial profiling, corruption and deprivation, knockout lines are delivered with the ferocity of a prize fighter.  Newark natives Middy Murdock, Fly Kwa, Confucious and fellow 050 Boyz member Prince Ak are the featured artists, intensifying the energy with their own gritty lyricism.

The production brings extra layers and dynamics courtesy of Chicago's DNA Beatz, Barcelona's Sumerio Square, the UK's Chat One and award winning Clinton Place (aka Jamal Nueve), originally of New Jersey and now resident in Los Angeles.   Rugged, raw and hardwired into the psyche of the street, this one's for the heads.

New EP out today through the recently re-launched label New Dawn Records.

'18 Showdown' includes all the remixes produced by the legendary turntablist Krash Slaughta (DMC Finals / II Tone Committee) for the Belles in Monica crew which were originally released on 12" vinyl with the addition of new cut "Venom".  All are now available to stream and download for the first time.

The DJ's renowned production style fusing imaginative soundscapes, driving beats and immense scratch skills combine with storytelling rhymes and hard bars.  From the fuel injected funk and cutting frenzy of "Meltdown", to the sinister tension of "What D'Ya Need" and the sonic chaos of "Resistance is Futile", the EP is a rare collection of artistically expressive and powerful hip hop immersed in a golden era just as a new decade comes in to view.

Hip hop crew Belles in Monica have released their new EP "Natsukashii", the follow up to April's "Y'All in Meltdown".

Out on New Dawn Records who relaunched this year after a 15 year hiatus, journeys are taken to the dark underbelly of inner city drug squalor in “Smoke Filled Rooms”, industry machinations are exposed in “That All U Got?” while the booming production of “Skitzophentic” provides the backdrop for a tirade against generic conformity.

"Venom" attacks multimedia's clandestine misinformation schemes while the mood is switched in “Hip Hop”, a funked up, sample laden ode to the culture. A soundtrack incorporating tight eclectic beats, turntablism and filmic themes concludes as the final credits roll with “Resistance is Futile”, a bonfire of the vanities in a metaphorical dystopia.
